March 11th, 2020. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak a worldwide pandemic. As of April 1st,2020, more than 859,000 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in over 200 countries and territories.

Of course, many people turn to social media in a time like this, to virtually support, appreciate, and encourage each other to be strong together despite being physically apart. A number of trending hashtags such as #washyourhands, #stayathome, #istayhomefor, #quaranteam, #flattenthecurve, and #alonetogether, have inspired thousands of creative arts and activities for influencers, celebrities, parents, children, medical staff, and workers to spread love and happiness amidst a trying time for everyone. So in my way of sharing some of that love and happiness, here’s a poem about how we can be alone, together:

As the days in quarantine continue to rise,

Loneliness seeps in and muffles our cries,

For those who are alone, don’t fear the silence,

Take courage and hope, we are an alliance.

Distance may separate, but doesn’t actually part,

What matters is what’s inside the heart,

The strength within is more than you know,

We’re in this together, let’s let it show.

So share a meme, or make music together,

Find ways to be there for each other,

Through our different arts and hobbies,

Limitless are the possibilities.
